Shitennō-ji

Established in 593 by Prince Shōtoku, Shitennō-ji is Japan's oldest officially administered Buddhist temple. While rebuilt over the centuries, it faithfully preserves its original 6th-century layout, featuring a stunning five-story pagoda you can climb and a peaceful Gokuraku-jōdo garden. Visitors can expect a spiritual atmosphere filled with chanting monks, historic relics, and a famous pond teeming with turtles.
