Heiwa-no-Torii (Hakone Shrine)

Standing majestically in the waters of Lake Ashi, this iconic vermilion torii gate belongs to Hakone Shrine and offers one of Japan's most photogenic vistas with Mount Fuji often visible in the distance. Visitors can walk right up to the water's edge along a paved stone path to stand directly beneath the gate. Expect a serene, forest-framed lakeside setting, but be prepared for a queue of travelers waiting to take their turn for the perfect lakeside photo.
