Owakudani Nature Research Trail

This active volcanic zone in Hakone offers a dramatic, up-close look at earth's raw power, featuring steaming sulfur vents and bubbling hot springs. Reopened via guided tours, the trail provides stunning views of Mount Fuji on clear days and a chance to try the famous black eggs (kuro-tamago) boiled in the mineral-rich waters. Expect a short, sulfur-scented walk that is highly weather-dependent and requires advance reservations.
