While the main keep of Hiroshima Castle is a concrete reconstruction, the Ninomaru (second bailiwick) features meticulously restored wooden interiors built using traditional, nail-free Edo-period techniques. Visitors can walk through the connected drum tower and turrets, which offer a much more authentic architectural experience than the main tower. It is a peaceful, less-crowded spot that provides deep insight into feudal defense design.

Take off your shoes to walk through the wooden turrets, and look out for the display showing how the complex timber joints fit together.
