Daigo-ji

Daigo-ji is a sprawling, UNESCO-listed Buddhist temple complex stretching across a mountainside in southeast Kyoto, famed for its ancient five-story pagoda—one of Kyoto's oldest standing structures. Visitors can explore the lower grounds, featuring the iconic red Bentendo hall reflected in a koi pond, or hike up the forested mountain trail to the secluded upper temple area. It offers a peaceful, less-crowded alternative to central temples, especially stunning during spring cherry blossoms and autumn maples.
