Hanamikoji Street Gion walk

Stretching through the heart of Gion, Hanamikoji Street is Kyoto's most famous historic district, lined with preserved wooden machiya townhouses, exclusive teahouses, and upscale restaurants. It offers an atmospheric step back in time where you can experience traditional Edo-period architecture. While it is highly crowded, it remains one of the best places in Japan to catch a fleeting glimpse of a geisha (maiko or geiko) on her way to an evening appointment.
