Because there are no shops or dining facilities in the immediate gorge area, visitors planning to hike should bring their own food and water.

How do visitors reach Kyoto Prefectural Hozukyo Natural Park by train?
Take the JR San'in Main Line (Sagano Line) local train from Kyoto Station to JR Hozukyo Station, which takes about 20 minutes and places you right on the bridge spanning the park's river gorge. Rapid and limited express trains do not stop there.
Is admission required to enter the park?
No admission fee is required to enter the park grounds or hike the trails along the gorge. However, the commercial transport attractions operating within the gorge, including the Sagano Scenic Railway and the Hozugawa River boat rides, require separately purchased tickets.
Are there hiking trails connected to the park?
Yes. The area around Torokko Hozukyo Station connects directly into both the Tokai Nature Trail and the Kyoto Circuit Trail (Kyoto Isshu Trail). Marked trail paths run through the forested slopes between Arashiyama, Kiyotaki, and the gorge from spring through autumn.
Can visitors walk continuously along the riverbank from Arashiyama to Hozukyo?
No continuous riverbank footpath connects Arashiyama directly along the gorge water to Hozukyo Station. The walking trail network diverts through the Kiyotaki valley and forested mountain passes before descending back toward the river at Ochiai and the station suspension bridges.
