Cotton Club is a beloved local jazz bar in Nara offering an intimate, retro atmosphere that feels like a hidden slice of Tokyo's golden age. Boasting an exceptional vinyl collection, excellent acoustics, and a warm, master bartender, it is the perfect spot to unwind after a day of sightseeing. Expect classic cocktails, a cozy counter-seating setup, and a wonderfully relaxed vibe where music takes center stage.
Sit at the counter to watch the master curate the vinyl playlist and ask him for a custom whiskey recommendation.
Take the Kintetsu Nara Line to Shin-Ōmiya Station. From the station exit, the bar is roughly a six to seven-minute walk south into the residential streets of Ōmiyachō, located on the second floor of the Villa Matsumoto building.
Cotton Club opens at 18:00 and closes at 01:00. Regular scheduled holidays are the second and fourth Sundays of each month; when a public holiday weekend occurs, the bar takes the final day off instead, alongside occasional temporary unscheduled closures.
Smoking is permitted across the entire bar interior without separate non-smoking seating. Because patrons frequently smoke cigarettes or cigars alongside their drinks in the compact 16-seat space, international visitors who are sensitive to indoor tobacco smoke should take this into account before visiting.
