Daimonji Fire Bed

Perched on the slopes of Mount Takamado, the Daimonji Fire Bed is the concrete foundation where the massive character for 'Dai' (meaning large) is lit during Nara's annual mid-August Obon festival. Hikers who trek up the mountain trail are rewarded with a peaceful, forested atmosphere and a spectacular, crowd-free panoramic view over Nara Basin.
