About
Nakatanidou is a legendary confectionery shop in Nara famous for its high-speed yomogi (mugwort) mochi pounding. Watching the master artisans hammer the green dough with incredible speed and rhythm is a thrilling spectator event. Visitors are rewarded with warm, freshly made mochi dusted in kinako (roasted soybean flour) and filled with sweet red bean paste.
Insider Tip
The pounding happens dynamically every 30 minutes; stand near the front left of the shop for the best view and photo angle.
