Connected directly to Osaka Station, Grand Front Osaka is a massive, ultra-modern retail and lifestyle complex spanning two main towers. It stands out from typical malls by housing the innovative Knowledge Capital, where you can interact with cutting-edge Japanese technology and prototypes. Expect a sleek, vertical shopping experience with over 260 shops, ranging from global flagship stores to curated Japanese lifestyle boutiques, topped with an excellent rooftop garden.
Grand Front Osaka consists of three aligned sections: Umekita Plaza, the South Building, and the North Building, interlinked by 2nd-floor pedestrian decks and underground passages. Visitors walking from JR Osaka Station arrive directly at the South Building 2nd floor via the covered pedestrian overpass without crossing vehicle roads. The North Building contains the Knowledge Capital labs, corporate showrooms, and hotel accommodations, while the South Building houses fashion retail and a 9th-floor outdoor observation terrace.
Head to the 9th-floor rooftop terrace in the South Building for a peaceful, free view of the Osaka skyline away from the crowds.
Exit through the 3rd-floor Bridge Gate (Renrakubashi Exit) or the Central North Gate of JR Osaka Station. A covered 2nd-floor pedestrian deck connects the station directly into the South Building of Grand Front Osaka, allowing visitors to walk between both buildings without crossing roads or street-level traffic.
Retail stores typically operate from 11:00 to 21:00 daily, while main restaurant floors open from 11:00 to 23:00. The basement Umekita Cellar runs from 10:00 to 22:00, and Knowledge Capital facilities open from 8:00 to 23:00, though individual tenant hours may vary.
The 6th-floor Umekita Floor features individual restaurants alongside communal seating known as Floor Tables. Visitors seated at these shared corridor tables can order food and drinks from any of the participating venues across the floor and have all items served directly to their single table.
General entry to Knowledge Capital and its primary interactive science showroom, The Lab. Active Lab on floors 2 and 3, is entirely free without reservations. However, special touring exhibitions hosted in the basement Event Lab or ticketed performances in the Knowledge Theater require purchasing separate admission tickets.
